Birthday Cat Painting

Artistic statement about this piece:

This cat holds so much emotion, and was a real challenge to create, both technically and personally. It was painted during a huge life change, as I ended a long-term relationship and had moved twice. Often feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, grieving, and this fear of the unknown. Although there was hope for myself, the light of the candle guided me into a better life. We don't celebrate these huge life moments of ending relationships as we do birthdays, baby announcements, or marriages, but I believe they are just as important and worthy of support. Choosing to love yourself is one of the bravest things you can do, and I am so glad for this choice I made. If you are feeling like this kitty, you are not alone, and it's going to be okay.
