Teefs Painting

Artistic statement about this piece:
When I saw this picture in July 2022, I knew I had to paint it. Sometimes it takes almost 3 years from an idea to reality. The close-up details of the teeth, and expressive eyes were slightly alarming and yet adorable. Often a familiar sight for cat parents as they are summoned for attention or to be fed. I really enjoy observing and painting the honest details of this world. Although I did not want to be bound by restricting myself to a small square panel, like all previous paintings of my expressive animal portrait series. I decided to go big for this painting to have the greatest impact, hoping to foster feelings of shock at the scale, admiration for this once small creature, and joy at the ridiculous nature of it. After completing this painting my confidence has grown, and the scale of my work is now boundless.
